Rosetta Stone: 2125 Error Message

Update 2:
It seems if you have an external sync hard drive or storage, setup to keep two computers in sync with each other, the tracking.db3 file will get corrupted. Even if the sync feature is only used on a single computer as a backup method and not connected to second computer.

Make sure to exclude the Rosetta Stone folder in case you have any sync features from external hard drives, or service from dropbox, jungle disk, cloud storage or other file sharing application setup on your system.

Update 1:
Rosetta Stone has posted an update on it's website on how to upgrade. http://support.rosettastone.com/link/portal/14006/14042/Article/5527/Update-Instructions-Rosetta-Stone-Version-3-Latest-Application-Versions

Original Post:

If you are using Windows Vista or Windows 7 then most likely the issue is with the permissions of the Rosetta Stone Software.

Try running the program as Administrator.
  • Right click on the "Rosetta Stone Version _" and if available select "Run as administrator".
  • If the above option is not available than click on
  • Windows Start Menu
  • Programs
  • Rosetta Stone Version _ and right click and select properties
  • Select the tab for compatibility and select the check box for "Run as administrator.
  • The above solution solved the issue for me and hope it does the same for others who are looking for a similar issue.
OS: Windows 7
Rosetta Stone 3

  1. I tried this but the tab that held the administrator file was grayed out and I was not able to change it, I did find other posts talking about a tracking.db3 file but I didn't have a tracking.db3. I did spy a updateinstaller.dll file and deleted it and now my program works great!

  2. It worked for me. Thanks a lot.

  3. Good to know different solutions worked for both of you! I guess every install is different; which ever solution works :) Thanks.

  4. If the above does not work, do the following:
    1) delete the "migrations" folder.
    2) move/rename the "tracking.db3" file;.
    3) restart Rosetta Stone - it will offer to create a new user - do not do anything here;.
    4) close Rosetta Stone;.
    5) bring back oyur old "tracking.db3" file by overwriting the newly automatically created one.

Enjoy! Your progress is all there.

    1. There seems to be a step missing (at least on my computer). After step 3 (move/rename the "tracking.db3" file), I had to reboot my machine before Rosetta Stone (after starting the program) would offer to create a new user. When I went directly back into Rosetta Stone (without rebooting the computer) I got a Rosetta Stone page ... but with the body being blank.)

So to summarize, there should be a step "2.5) Reboot your computer." before going on to step 3.

Otherwise, the solution seems to work fine as is (on my computer, anyway.)

  6. I experimented a bit and found the following fix:

find the tracking.db3 file in your appdata folder (for windows 7 its C:\programData\Rosetta Stone\tracking.db3 (hidden folder) and rename it to tracking.db3.bak
    Restart the pc
launch rosetta stone (all your progress has been lost now)
    close the rosetta stone application
    rename tracking.db3.bak to tracking.db3
Launch the application again and here you go, you can use it again :-)

    1. This helped me. The only thing I wasn't doing before with other instructions was restarting the PC. After renaming the tracking.db3 file and migrations folder, I restarted the PC. Followed your other instructions and it came up.

      Thanks!!!

  7. Rosetta stone technical support is horrible, i have been getting fatal error 2124. i called this morning they said to call back in the afternoon. i called back and waited for 46 min with no human voice at the other end just some music. called back and waited for 15 minutes and got a guy who said we are sorry we have too many calls. and you actually need to reach technical support. when i asked for that number he gave the number i was calling him at. i asked why he said he does not have that number. so now i am waiting for someone to call me back.............a whole sunday wasted while waiting for rosetta stone

    1. Yes Rosetta Stone has the worst tech support I have seen. If you purchased your software over a year ago then you will have to pay 19 dollars to get the fix from tech support over the phone. I took the five minutes to just fix the DB3 file as suggested by various user found fixes. I dont know why this isnt on the website. Most likely to snatch more money from loyal customers.

  11. I cannot locate any "db3" file... neither can i find the "migration" folder, any idea?

  12. Look here:

    C:\programData\Rosetta Stone\tracking.db3

    Not the install directory...

    The program data folder

  13. Windows 8 users; Go to 'computer', click local disk C, program files, Rosetta stone, now right click where it says version 3 or whatever, go into the properties, click security, edit, a window will pop up, it will say 'ALL APPLICATION PACKAGES' 'CREATOR OWNER' 'SYSTEM' and more, change all the permissions in the tick boxes below to Allow for each one and apply the change in the bottom right hand side. If your on windows 8 you may not need to re boot. I also deleted the update downloader in the Rosetta stone file in C and removed the permission for its access to the internet in 'allow an app through the firewall' since I usually find if windows tries to update anything even it's self things go wrong and i suppose if its not broken don't fix it.

Google Mail Hangout Message Upon Delete Action

Don't know if I get annoyed this much as the Google's Mail Hangout Message, when I select to delete number or messages. " Because some are part of a Hangout, they have been removed from your Mail mailbox, but will still show up in other Hangouts apps and chat windows. " The message takes over the entire tool bar, and does not allow me to repeat the actions, it does not goes away until way late and would have appreciated but not allowed is a option to close. If I want to delete more items on the same page than i have to refresh the window to repeat the task. Wish the future update can allow me to close this message.
